Ladies We Love: Hannah-Marie

Hannah wearing pink Rose & Thorne bra. Text reads: Ladies We Love | Hannah Marie Van Kan

A wife and mum of 3, Hannah-Marie is no amateur to the balancing act of motherhood. Passionate about raising awareness for brain cancer and spreading joy, Hannah-Marie is a total inspiration. We spoke to Hannah-Marie about motherhood, mental health, and how she embodies a healthy lifestyle…

What is your name, bra size, and secret power?

Hannah-Marie Van Kan, I am a size 14D and I have a memory like an elephant when it comes to song lyrics.

What makes you the happiest in life?

My family, going to the gym and a deep glass of Villa Maria Rosè.

Who inspires you the most and why?

Most definitely my beautiful Mum. In December of 2018, my mum was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer and given a short 12 months left to live- we are now in month 16. She has fought hard and continues to do so every single day and I am just in awe of her strength, she is truly so inspiring.

Among your friends, what are you best known for?

I’d like to think I am known for being a great mum to my 3 young children and probably the first to always be up for a wine (haha).

What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?

I am terrified of dressed up characters.

What is your favourite thing about yourself?

I take pride in the fact I am a very caring person. I’m more a giver than a receiver.

What is your favourite way to get your body moving and grooving?

90s music will always get me going! Another favourite is definitely a LesMills Body Combat class. (Fun fact before I had children I was a Body Combat instructor in training.)

What do you do for yourself?

Exercise. Going to the gym or out for a run is so important for my mental health.

What has been your biggest body struggle?

My weight has always been a struggle for me and learning to accept my body shape has been a life long battle. I have been a size 10 and size 18 and everything in between. I can get very fixated on my weight which can send me into a downward spiral very quickly.

It wasn’t until having all my children I now respect my body and the amazing vessel that it is and try more to focus on living a healthy lifestyle and a healthy body more than being a certain weight.

What do you do to boost your body confidence on days you're feeling down about your body?

I’m not going to lie, this is very tough for me to come out of when I feel down about myself. Often I will go to the gym, play my favourite music loud, and go hard. Or other times my husband will remind me how far I have come and how beautiful I look.

What's the best thing about being a woman?

Becoming a mother. Women are incredible in general but a woman being able to grow a human and bring it into this world blows my mind.

What is beauty to you?

Beauty is kindness.

What's the best piece of advice you've heard or received about body confidence?

Confidence comes from within. Once you learn to love and accept your body, confidence will shine through.

What is your favourite go-to Rose & Thorne bra, and why?

My favourite go-to Rose & Thorne bra at the moment is my Contrast Lace bra in Aqua Navy. It just ticks all the boxes, comfort, support, practical with just the right amount of sexy. I always feel a little more put together with a pretty bra on!

Thanks, Hannah-Marie! Keep being you!
