Customer Shoot featuring Kelly

Kelly smiling in Rose & Thorne supportive bra. Text reads: Ladies We Love Customer Shoot featuring Kelly

Meet Kelly, one of the lovely ladies who joined us for our most recent customer video shoot! We asked Kelly a few questions to get to know a bit more about who she is and what makes her tick. We're sure you'll love her as much as we do.

What is your name, bra size, and secret power?

I'm Kelly Adams and I am a 16G (thanks to Bra Guru Sue's expertise and guidance - I have my bra Warrant Of Fitness!). Being a woman is a superpower in itself - am I right ladies?! I love cooking, but more than that, I love eating.

Why did you apply to be in the Customer Video Shoot?

I had seen the advertisement on social media and had initially just scrolled passed it, but there was a moment I thought back to; when my 4 1/2-year-old daughter had said to me "Mommy, you don't like taking pictures hey?" and this somehow struck me. My daughter loves taking pictures of anything and everything, even with her toy phone.

I have always had issues with poor body confidence, body image and poor self-esteem as I was always the 'bigger' girl, friend, family member, individual and had labels and terms such as fat, unhealthy, overweight, plump and stumpy directed at me when it came to my appearance and body shape.

I developed a mechanism of then making fun of myself before the other person could, so that we could just get past it and move on, and also found it easier to avoid pictures, would offer to take pictures instead or at least try to hide behind others so I was not as visible, and this has carried on through into my adult life. I have always been very conscious and uncomfortably aware of my body and what it looks like when standing, sitting or doing anything and would try to cover it up.

This is not something I would want my daughter to experience and I have decided to make the conscious decision to be kinder to myself, celebrate and appreciate what my body has gone through. I want to change the way I perceive myself and my shape; to be comfortable with who I am and to be present and take those selfies and pictures with my daughter - even the pretend ones! And one of the first steps was applying for the Customer Call Video Shoot

What makes you the happiest in life?

Being with my family. I have the most amazing husband and daughter. We love laughing and singing, being silly, spending time together - doing anything and everything makes me the happiest.

There is my extended NZ family too. I love laughing and there is so much of this along with good food and drinks, but more importantly, knowing my family and I have their love and support.

Ooh, coffee and Whittaker's chocolate make me very happy too!

What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?

I am an Occupational Therapist.

What did you enjoy most about your day on set?

From beginning to end, I enjoyed every single moment of the video shoot, both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes. Having 3 amazing ladies, Hayley, Michelle and Paulina, in the video too just made it even more amazing...not forgetting all the giggles and jokes with Sue and the team too! It was an experience of a lifetime for me.

Was there anything that surprised you about the day?

Not so much surprising but identifying with Hayley, Michelle, and Paulina that we have all experienced the same issues with our body confidence and self-image at some stage in our lives and that we had all thought prior to the video shoot "What have we gotten ourselves into?!"

How did it feel to be fitted and have a dance in your underwear in front of a camera?

I think having had a fitting with Sue prior to the shoot helped calm the nerves a little bit.

I was feeling self-conscious at first, but with all the love and support in the studio and the music, choosing to embrace my body and wearing a really amazing bra, I felt happy, comfortable and free, I could not help but to 'let loose' a little bit - dance like no one is watching, as they would say!

Is there anything you learned from taking part in our customer video shoot?

Video shoots are fun and cool! I would do it again, should the opportunity arise. Also, that Rose & Thorne Lingerie value their customers.

What's the best thing about being a woman?

The many roles we fulfil and hats we wear in our everyday lives. We are superwomen - strong and resilient!

What's one piece of advice you'd give to others learning to embrace their bodies?

That first step may seem the hardest, but boy, it is an amazing feeling when you have achieved and done something for yourself. Learning to love yourself and your body is a lifelong journey - be kind to yourself, celebrate the small and big things. Know that those around you would see and look to you as an example.

What's your favourite go-to Rose & Thorne bra, and why?

The Premium Support Serena Lace Bra in Fusion Coral is my favourite. I love the Enhanced Support En Forme Range - it is what I have been wearing since I've discovered the Rose & Thorne brand. The colours and designs are amazing - no more black, white & beige! Yay!! But also the comfort, support and functionality it offers - especially now that I have been fitted to the correct bra. Thanks, Sue!

Mind you, I am looking forward to exploring the Smooth Operator and Active Bra Range next.
